Worry solution from the 10th century?
'Do not worry about what will come next, you will discover it when it comes'. - St Symeon, the New Theologian (born in 949; died in 1022); quote can be found at http://www.orthodoxchristian.info/pages/Jprayer.html
when i sent this quote out as a text (to my 4 children and some others) -it got a lot of response! several people said they really liked it and one said 'hard to live by' --of course, true! however.... my experience is that when i'm spiritually fit and conscious i am walking with Christ, virtually nothing can make me worry. it is an amazing sense of well-being and peace.
unfortunately.... i am not always conscious of Christ's presence.... i need a lot of reminders ;-) -- i love the fact that a guy whose life spanned the 10th & 11th centuries can remind me, a guy from the 20th and 21st centuries. and when i think about what he's saying, doesn't it make sense? we do discover 'what will come next' when it comes. why waste energy worrying about what will come? what good can come of it?
when i remember i am loved by the guy who created the universe; and 'everything is gonna work out' in the end.... and that He is with me.... --really, what is there to worry about? but, oh, so easy to forget!
i am grateful for the reminders, especially my friends. this little website too, has become a great daily reminder for me. so, thank you. :-)
