The thief in my mind...
"Don't become a victim of yourself. Forget about the thief waiting in the alley; what about the thief in your mind?" - Jim Rohn
When i'm full of anxiety, worry, or resentment -they are like thieves who steal peace, joy and fun.
i have let bad memories, fear, and people i resent, live 'rent free in my head' for years. they're like bad (loud) nieghbors that dont let you sleep; dont let you have peace, joy or fun. -- there are three things i was taught, that got them evicted. ;-)
1. do an inventory (the good, the bad and the ugly) -- the more time you spend on it the more valuable it will be. as you can imagine, it's not easy. have support -friends and prayer really helped me; but... even if it's faaar from perfect, do it. start. even a poor inventory is better than no inventory. i also learned you can do many inventories over time. i know, kind of obvious, but i'm a little slow sometimes ;-)
2. share your inventory with another human being that you trust with your life. i think catholics are a little lucky they have 'confession.' a bonus is that priests take a solemn vow to never reveal what they are told in confession. it's called the 'seal of confession.'
3. pray for the people you resent and/or who've injured you; daily, -(the nausea will go away if you are persistent) and when your prayer becomes sincere... -the thief in your mind leaves. Happiness, joy, fun and peace are able to return.
