Sowing and begging....
You must get good at one of two things: sowing in the spring or begging in the fall. -Jim Rohn (can be found online at http://www.appleseeds.org/rohn_spring.htm -great website btw)
this quote has the practical side - and, a spiritual lesson comes to mind as well -that i've learned (the hard way) ;-) --when things are going well (whether financially, physically or spiritually) i can tend to slow down, get lazy, not plan ahead. my son thomas has a shirt that says "Lazy, But Talented" -part of me loves it, and part of me wants to throw it away! when we are talented (and thomas is) it is so easy to be lazy and coast.
so, it's the tortoise and hare story right? the turtle plods along, sowing all spring, while the hare takes it easy, being lazy and showing off. we all know who wins. which reminds me, thomas has a pet turtle. hmmm, now what can that mean!? :-) so, the humble turtle wins -a lesson i often forget....
i've noticed too -that when i'm cruising along and 'everythings fine' -i can get lazy in the spiritual realm as well - neglecting my relationship with the Mystery. then, if when life happens, i'm on my knees - yep, begging!
this is really something i do not understand: even when my life is "going well" i still find the need, when i'm truly honest with myself, to beg the Lord to be with me, to help me, to show his face to me in the day. like one of my favorite writers, Heather King, has written about, i often wake up terror stricken at the thought of facing the day! what i wonder about is this, maybe on the spiritual side, we are 'built' to do both -'work' at this thing called life, and relationships; and 'beg' for help in this thing called life, and relationships....
