Imperfect authenticity...
"Nothing is so easy as to be religious on paper." - John Henry Newman (as quoted by Gil Baille @ http://moscowcoffeereview.com/carpecakem/2010/08/16/john-henry-newman-quotes/)
i love this quote. it's true of course. it's humbling. i never would have believed that being humbled would be something that stoked the fire in my heart, but it turns out Ed was right. Jesus too. ;-)
doing my daily 'quote texts,' to my children (the reason i do them), some friends and family -is challenging, in large part because i am faced with my weakness on a daily basis! but they are also inspiring and remind me of important truths, paradoxes (my favorites) and beauty that is all around me.
i want to be sincere and authentic; i want to be happy and joyful and always do the right thing; i really do. and often, i do not. this wonderful website (which probably does more for me than anyone else) nudges me toward growth and abundance.
my dad taught me that it is possible to be less than perfect, and religious: kind, courageous, loving, joyful, forgiving...
remembering that "it's easy to be religious on paper" (and cyber-space), may we be willing to do the hard 'work' that brings love and joy into our families and the people on our path....
