G-d gives how much???
We can never have too much hope in G-d. He gives in the measure we ask. - St. Therese of Lisieux (from WISDOM FROM Women Saints; The Word Among Us Stand-Up Calendar; Compiled by Jeanne Kun -June 13; also can be found online at http://www.mycatholicsource.com/mcs/qt/prayers_and_devotions_reflections.htm)
i love this quote -AND, i'm not sure i believe it!! -my faith is so weak.
when i saw todays quote this morning, i had two almost simultaneous reactions. 'how cool!' -and- 'what does that mean? -how can that be true!?' then, i thought, i can't ask for something important or big, because if i don't get it, it would be crushing...
maybe our prayer isn't so much that we ask, but how we ask. maybe it's like the half-hearted decision we make to ride a bicylce across the country... and then do nothing or very little about it -and it never happens. versus... that deep resolve that touches our core, and the very next day we begin buying books on training regimens for long distance bicycling; dehydration... knowing it is going to happen.
if i have a relationship with G-d that is casual and i ask things of him in a casual or half-hearted way... maybe that's a clue as to the kind of response i'll be getting... ;-) --but if i'm willing to risk my heart, and pray from the deepest part of my soul... perhaps that is the kind of prayer that moves the heart of G-d....
maybe it would be okay to begin by asking for the willingness to ask; in a humble, trusting, powerful way....
